what a long quarter it will be

Oh school..

what a boring quarter it is.

Booo on school this quarter!

First class, word documents.. it wouldn’t be so bad if we were handed a paper and told to create it. BUT NO.. it has to be difficult and pointless. I can create a paper that is given to me. No problem.. but the program we use (yes, a program.. the teacher does.. well.. nothing but walk around and help us if we need it.. but the program shows us how so.. I don’t know) Anyways.. the program we use.. it is sooo specific on how things must be done. For example:

Center the text in paragraph 2.  EASY.. highlight the paragraph and click the little center button on the toolbar.. Right? NO.. no way.  place cursor in front of the first text, right click, select all, right click again, hit center..

The thing is, if you do it “wrong” it wont let you continue.. you HAVE to do it that way.. and on the test, it takes points off.. Place graphic above first paragraph. Size graphic. Now move graphic to .5 on the horizontal line and 1.5 on the vertical.. INCORRECT.. that is all I ever see.. INCORRECT.. ugh.. I get frustrated.. why is it wrong.. OH because it is on the .6 horizontal line.. You get my point.. it is a long long 2 hour class..

Followed by… a long two hour TYPING class.. you know.. that same class you took in middle school.. aaa asa sas ssa sss ;;; ;l; l;l ll; lll   THAT class.. Each chapter having a timed writing at the end of it. Telling you what you should type.. wpm 16.. MY words per min.. 88

yea, I should have tested out of that class. What a waste of time, money, finger movement.. on the other hand.. it’s an easy A

Last class, office procedures.. Today was good though, (I like the teacher) we talked about resumes and interviews. It was very helpful knowing what to put on and leave off. The teacher is actually the career development teacher {this being her first time teaching office procedures} so the class is turning into a office procedure career development hybrid class. There are only 4 other students in the class and it too is two hours long sooo.. it gets boring But at least it is boring stuff that is going to honestly help me in the long run.

We are a quarter ways into this quarter.. I am hoping it goes by super fast. Then on to MATH and ENGLISH.. yipee.. I miss my dental teachers.. the dental lab.. dental science classes.. hands on learning. (and I don’t mean hands on keyboards)

Another quarter passes by

It is that time again.. yes fall is here and it is time to put on boots, wear oversized sweaters, watch the leaves change, and plan bonfires.. although that isn't what I was planning on posting about… it’s just, goodness I love fall.

Anyways! It is that time again.. that time where I walk down the hall, say hello to Amanda at the front desk, make a slight right, followed by an immediate left, and then make a final right.. walk into Mr. Spilko’s office to the far right corner and shuffle through the box looking for my name. The box is labels DEANS LIST. So, simply put, the quarter is over and (of course) I made all A’s.. again.

OH yea.. do the happy dance.. oh yea.. do the happy dance.. do the happy dance.. oh oh oh yea

Radiology was amazing! LOVED IT.. I understand fully why K loves that field. Speaking of, she graduated!! She also now has a wonderful job working in Surgery at the main hospital around here. BIG GIRL JOB.. I couldn’t be any more proud of her. I waited so so long for her to succeed. She had her moments of doubt if it were ever going to end but I just wanted to see her finish so I could see her face when she did succeed since it felt so far away for her so many different times. I knew she could and would do it.. yay best friend!

So yes, radiology is the shizzit (cheers K) and I wish we had to take another quarter of it. As for my other class.. Eagle Soft.. ugh.. I mean, I can do computer work. no biggie, and this did teach me a lot about the Dental field. It is just.. just.. well, I I’d rather be in the lab working hands on teeth instead of hands on keyboard. BUT.. it was a good class with a great teacher and wonderful students.

Next quarter.. oh next quarter.. can we say BOOOO and I am not talking about ghost on Halloween. BOooOOoo with a big thumbs down. No dental classes, 3 computer classes right in a row, with a 10 min break in-between each. From 8:30-3:30. Same class room might I add. YEA, it is going to be one of those quarters.

So in one year I will be finishing school! Just one year. I can not believe how time just flies by.. to think, a year ago I had just started.. now I am half way done! I love this field, not going lie.. I am excited to be probing and fixing peoples mouth. Why not give someone a smile to be and show confidence with? Right?

ok.. end this post. long boring school stuff.. Time for a so she says.. those are WAY cooler than updates about me

First 6 weeks, accomplished!

My first 6 weeks:
finished, complete, accomplished, aced, over with, unbelievable

I just finished my first 6 weeks of school!
GO ME!

Yes, I Aced both of them! Oral communications was my favorite. I didn't think I would like speaking in front of others. Me shy? I know you don't believe me but really I am. I don't like talking to more than like 4 people at a time. All eyes staring. AHH. I'd rather jump rope and I hate jump rope! According to my four grades.. and my math savy husband, my average is a 103. Yes! Anyways, I loved that class.. the people in it, the speeches we gave, the things we learned about each other, and my teacher. SHE was wonderful. My 8:30 class rocked! As for career development, hum. The teacher (who was actually the husband of my oral com. teacher that I loved) was, well, interesting. He was the complete opposite of his wife though. Mono toned, steady, but what he was teaching was true. As a person, I did like him. I took something away from that class every day! I used what I was taught.. at home with my husband, who thought it was very humorous every time I would say "in my career development class I learned you are supposed to blah blah this or that" It is my new way of getting what I want.. per say.

The class did change my way of thinking. It is not about thinking positive (which is how we are always taught) It is about believeing positive (which is kind of common sense). There is a difference though. You may be thinking, well duh.. or maybe you think you do believe positive but really you probably don't. For example: in stead of saying I know I can pass with Honors or I know I will pass with Honors. You must say: After I graduate with Honors or I am passing with Honors (even if you actually are not at the time) You must speak in present and not future but place your future as your present. Make sense? It is not I know I can.. It is more of.. I already have. Once you place your future as your present, you will accomplish. I could actually go on about this but it would take, well, 6 weeks of readying..   :) It was a good class though. I learned!
oh yea, I Aced it as well!

Here is another great thing about these past 6 weeks. I....made...friends..... yay!  Really, I did! There is Kiara, she and I connected the first few days. That girl is not only sweet but so mature and caring. At only the age of 23, you wouldn't guess! Sad news, she has the opposite schedule as me next semester. We don't even go on the same says. THAT SUCKS! Good news, I didn't just make one friend. Another girl, Jasmine. She is going into Dental also soooooo.... next semester, we have the same classes at the same time on the same days! WOOHOO. Im excited!

(Kiara on the left, Jasmine on the right)

Most of our class.. missing about 6 people

:::sadness:::  I'm going to miss her!

Next semester:
Medical Terminology
Medical Law
Psychology

Oh buddy! I have a hard semester coming up. Medical Term.. (career development:) Acing!  .. on a more nervous note: my weakness is spelling and definitions. What is Medical Term? yea, spelling and definitions. So if things are misspelled on here, it is the spell checks fault, not mine! Then there is Medical Law, which according to to other students is "difficult" "one of the hardest classes" "tons of work". Again, I am Acing! As for Psychology, Im excited. So as you can see, I will be busy and nervous for my first 12 weeks of hard classes since 2004. (Say a little prayer for me)

For this week, I have off school. I will be cleaning, organizing, and getting my life ready to focus on Mom, Wife, Student.. That is the order of importance. Wife and Student switching in some ways.. Wish me luck!

I found this and have decided it will be the first thing I hang up in MY dental cubical, if that is what they are called.. Area? Space? Room?  It makes me smile!

Choked up in class?!

I have not been to school in 6 years. That is crazy to say, think about, and even wrap my head around. Mainly because I feel like I just left high school 3 years ago. When I went to Chattanooga State, my mind was just not in it. I went to class until I found a friend to skip class with. I did my homework until I met a guy (my now husband) and decided that talking on the phone to him was more important. I paid attention until the teacher bored me. I studied for test until I realized that regardless of if I studied, I was going to fail. I didn't expect much out of myself. I didn't have the motivation for it. I was in no way ready for school. So, during the second semester I dropped out. I did go to nail school (and finished it) but then I got pregnant. While I was a stay at home mom, I did online classes for property management. I used that education to get a job at an Apartment Community which I did very well at for 2.5 years. There was no room for me to move up, get pay raise, or really succeed any more than what I already had unless I switched communities. After some thought, I decided there was no way I could spend my life dealing with people's every day living situations without helping them in a positive way. I could not deal with seeing the way people live, drank, smoked, and treated their kids along with not paying rent.

I had been patiently waiting since the birth of my daughter (who is now 4) for the right time and opportunity to go back to school. Well people, the time has come! The time is here! Today was my 2nd day of classes.

That is right, I am back in school. My first semester is only 6 weeks. I have 2 classes that are both 2 hours long back to back in the same classroom. 4 days a week. The teachers are husband and wife. Class one. Oral Communications. Class Two. Career Development. Therefore, spending 4 days a week in the same class with the exact same people for 4 hours a day and a husband/wife teaching, I feel like I am in a 4 hours class. It is LONG. Only a 10 min. break in between. It is LONG.

Anyways, that was just all the background on my 2 day schooling.

While in Oral Communications today, the teacher was talking about graduation. She went on to mention that some people feel like that are failures because they did not go to or finish school right when they graduated high school. That people come back to school so they don't feel like such a loser. Most the students in my class have kids. Most are actually single moms. As she started talking and I really started listening I got choked up. Choked up in class on my second day. The teacher started talking about the impression that it makes on a child to actually see their parents go to school. That when parents finish school before the child is born, it does have many benefits such as being easier to do well, being easier to go to class, setting up yourself with a good job before the baby is born, and so on. The difference is that as the child grows up, they know the parent went to school to get where they are at and provide for the child. They do not see the struggle, the homework, the motivation to better yourself. This is so true! The teacher went on to not think of yourself as a loser or that you failed. Think of yourself setting a visible example to your children that you can and you will do what need to for their future. This hit me. Mady knew it was my first day. She actually sat next to me while I did my homework for a while on the couch tonight. She visually watched me to my school. She sees me leave in the morning to go to class. It is making a visual impression on my 4 year old that will last a life time! She will be proud of me. Another thing the teacher brought up was graduation. I had not thought about graduation and walking across the stage. Then she said, your children will be there. How many parents can say that their child watched them walk across the stage clapping and yelling. OMG. This excites me! Mady will be almost 6 when I graduate (the first time, because I will be continuing for my Bachelors in Applied Science after these 2 years) She will understand that I have accomplished what she saw me working at for 2 years. This is going to be amazing. As I am sitting there all choked up I realized that this was why God had me wait. This is why "my" time did not come until now. Maybe Mady needed me and I needed her to see me struggle at and accomplish a goal. Everything does happen for a reason doesn't it?!
