Oh.. one more thing!

Update: School is great! I still love it. I have been there for a year now and can’t say anything bad about the teachers or the program. For the bad: I can say that financial aid people don’t have a clue what they are talking about half the time. They have completely messed me up on my schedule and have affected when I will graduate BUT, everything happens for a reason. Good news, I can graduate earlier than the last time I talked to them. They messed me up for 2 quarters so I was 2 quarters behind. Now, I am just 1 quarter behind. Then again, who knows what they say next quarter.. Regardless, I am still making all A’s and starting my last year (as I put it)

BIG NEWS:

MADY WILL BE STARTING DANCE CLASSES IN TWO WEEKS! (it actually may be this week, I need to call and check to see if it is this Thursday or next Thursday she will be dancing) Regardless of when it is.. she will be dancing!

Ballet, Tap, and Jazz {7 weeks, 1 day a week} so be looking for updates and cute pictures of my little blonde headed ballet dancer

Just a little more

My last post was about how I have realized that I need to let go a little. This post is going to tell you what happens when you let go a little. (although, if I had not let go a little, this stuff would more than likely still be going on)

Again, she will be 5 in August.

Mady has gown a personality per say and this personality better only stay for a few more months. I like to think it is just because she is changing from a 4 year old to a 5 year old. She is trying to find her way in the world and is confused on how to go from being little to being big. But here is a FEW examples of what is going on..

She has decided to be independent with everything
- climbing on a chair to get clothes down from the closet

She has found her voice in the demands that she puts out there
- “I know better than you do” “I already told you twice, I AM going to do that” “It’s what I say NOT what you say” “I can if I want to” “You do it” “YES MOTHHHEEEERR”

She has learned that Mom can be tested
- Madyson, please stop hitting the wall with the toy.. she does it again. Madyson, please stop hitting the wall with the toy.. she looks right at me and does it again.

She has stopped telling on herself for everything
- I find a babydoll that is shiny. When asked why it is shiny, she says she put lip gloss on her and didn’t tell me because she didn’t want to get in trouble. p.s. come to find out, it wasn’t the first time she bathed her baby dolls in lipgloss during rest time

She has learned how to beg
- I really want it. Please?! I wont ask for anything ever again. Please. I wont even be whiny.

She has an attitude that; it is her way, this is how it is done, she will tell you what to do, and if she doesn’t like it there is no discussion about it..

Now that I think about all this, sounds like she is trying to take on the adult role in our mother daughter relationship. Unfortunately for her, I am not naive.. she doesn’t get away with it, and I don’t give in often. To be the adult, she has to run the race with me and regardless of how cute she is, I will win. I am faster. I am bigger. and if she is ahead, I can always trip her!

Let me add this though: she is still a wonderful child. She does listen most the time. She is quite and respectful. She does make me laugh 22/7. And I still feel very blessed and thankful that SHE is who God gave me. I am not complaining, I actually find it quite funny. I love her with ALL my heart and would NOT change the past 4 1/2 years (including these past few months of this personality) for anything in the world!

Getting SO Big!

It amazes me how much can change in such a short amount of time. I feel as though things can stay the same for so long that when things do change, they change quick and drastically. As in; my beautiful little Chica.

She will be 5 in August.

For a few months now I have felt as if she has not grown very much. (not physically and not mentally but reality wise I guess you could say) I blame myself for this, being the over protective parent that I knew I wanted to be. Now I realize that over protective isn't always a great thing.. A good thing YES, a great thing.. not always..

Since she was a itty bitty I have watched what I say around her, what other’s say around her, what she sees on tv or listens to on the radio. For example: she was only allowed to watch shows that educated her. This does mean we watch a ton of that annoying show Dora the Explorer. Pretty much Sprout and Nick Jr were the only things allowed. There are not commercials on sprout or nick jr so her seeing the sexual commercials for (everything) cutting the grass were never a worry of mine. Music was always kids place live or CD’s I made (of course she has always listened to the Beetles and such)

I have never broken a bone in my life. Neither has my sister. Heck, I couldn’t even tell you where you go when you go to the ER. Do you sign in? Do you sit in the waiting room with a screaming child? Do you get called back right when you sign in? I am clueless. I am also careful. I never broke a bone because I didn’t take risk (like jumping off roofs or whatever people do when they break bones) I stayed safe.. Safe from the pain.

HOW HAS BEING AN OVERPROTECTIVE MOM BACK FIRED?

My child doesn’t take risk either. I got in the habit of telling her the worst thing that could happen. For example, her sitting on the edge of something. “Mady be careful, if you fall you could bust your head open and then you would bleed all over the grass” or “Mady don’t run on the concrete, if you fall you could smash your face” you know, little things like that.. (HA, pretty bad I know.. I have stopped this though) Kind of reminds me of the Christmas Story where he could shoot his eye or whatever. THAT is exactly the kind of things I WAS  saying to her. This lead into her not wanting to do anything that was dangerous. Which lead to her not wanting to do anything that was slightly dangerous. Then I got scared she would miss out on life. So now, I do things life push her down the small water slide. From one extreme to the other.. I know.. but hey, I’m only 5 years into this being a mom thing.. I’ll figure out the middle ground at some point!

As for tv/radio. Yes, the radio has songs that are very unnecessary for even a 26 year old, but not seeing commercials, tv shows, or radio.. kept her in the dark you could say. I started to see how other 4 and 5 years olds acted. Listening to what they would say. YES, my child is way smarter than those children when it comes to Anatomy, Reading, and any other BOOK SMART that there is. But “street” smart (for a 4 ear old) she had no clue! Therefore, I let up a little bit. We have Netflix only so there are still not commercials (which is a good thing) but we watch things like Hannah Montana, movies like Free Willy, Annie, even Spiderman {the real spider man not the old one or the cartoon} So, she is a little more adverse you could say. {not sure if that is the word I am looking for.. but you know what I mean}

As for music, Disney Station is fine with me. Which the Disney Station is not would you are thinking it is. If you grew up when I did or are older, you are probably thinking theme songs from Disney movies or mickey mouse and such. NOPE. It is like a pop station for kids. So, she hears some of the same music played in retail stores or restaurants. Songs I like, songs Zak likes.

WHAT HAS CHANGED

she is growing up. I don’t really like this but it must happen. I think I was trying to keep her little which held her back from knowing and seeing the reality of the world. As much as I want to protect her from everything bad. (we all know our world has a ton of bad now a days) I also want her to grow. Learn to make good decisions. Trust in God, herself, and her family. I want her to experience life in the best way possible while making mistakes on the way to where her life takes her. I want her to know she is amazing because she chooses to be not because I make her to be. I want her to learn that even in the wrong of the world, the right of the world is worth everything. I want her to grow and be beautiful inside and out. Learn what to do when others are being mean. How to handle situations. If I keep her little, over protect her, do everything for her, and not allow her to take a dangerous chance.. she wont know what to do when she is in school. Even at the age of 5 and 6, kids are going through things that we never would have believed when we were growing up.

So although she is growing up FAST. I feel as though I should allow it. I feel as though I am taking baby steps trying to keep up with her and the rest of the world. Now, lets say a small simple prayer!

Dear God, please allow my beautiful chica the knowledge and guidance to be amazing in every situation. Also, can you please change the cycle of life and allow babies to stay babies for an extra 3 years. In Jesus name. Amen!

Are you smarter than a 5th grader??

How many vowels does appearance have?

What was your guess? 3?? mine too.. the correct answer.. 5  Vowels… NOT Syllables!

While playing “are you smarter than a 5th grader” on my BF’s phone, that is the question that popped up. My answer.. 3  .. Then, after I got it wrong, I realized that it said vowels NOT syllables. I didn’t admit it to my BF, I just simply looked at her and asked her the same question. “3” she said.. nope.. VOWELS.. then when her fiancĂ© came in the room, he got the same question. “3” he said (with confidence) haha.. noooo it asked for Vowels..

Remember, we are all over the age of 25!

So, sitting at dinner tonight, I asked Mady. Then I realized she wont know how many vowels there are so I asked her about syllables. She said she didn’t know and she didn’t remember how to “clap it out” like she was taught at preschool. I then asked her how many syllables the word HAPPY has. She looked up at the ceiling like she does when she is trying to figure something out and quietly to her self she said “H…  A…  P…  P… Y…”

I was shocked. I know she knows how to spell every day words like Mady, Dad, NaNa, Love, Dog, God, No, Yes, Hi, and so one but to correctly spell, quietly to her self, the word Happy.. I loved it. LOVED IT.

now I kind of want to download the “are you smarter than a 5th grader” app to my phone, and let her answer the questions because I am pretty sure she IS smarter than a 5th grader

So she says

This is a quick one but I just didn't want to forget what she said

Me: Mady, please put your shoe in the cubby with the other shoe

Mady: but I want to wear them

Me: you can wear them tomorrow

Mady: I can?? Really?? Oh bless my heart.

Bahaha. She is adorable.

I have been such a slacker with my post the past month or so. It isn’t that I don’t have anything to share, I have TONS of things to share {in my not so exciting life}.. I just have not taken the time to walk to my computer, sit in the chair, pull up life writer, and type

so here is some updates:

  • we celebrated Bobs birthday
  • Mothers day was great
  • we went to the indoor/outdoor water park for the weekend (again)
  • School is getting harder
  • Mady’s last day of preschool is TODAY (right now as I type, that is where she is at)
  • I can’t believe she will be in PreK 4 next year (yes, we did decide to wait one more year to send her to kindergarten.. she will turn 5 two days before school starts.. so this means she will be 6 when she starts kindergarten, but I feel very at peace with this decision)
  • I have been cooking
  • I signed up for my first 5K (got tickets 2 days ago, the run is in October)
  • Hawaii is in 50 days (or so)
  • Speaking of 50, my mom turns 50 this year! actually this month!!
  • I have stopped taking pictures with my camera and I now use my iphone.. this has to change though because I miss pretty pictures..

Life really just seems busy, maybe it is because I have school 4 days a week with homework homework homework.. I am not sure why but the past few months just seems like I run out of time to clean, blog, take pictures, play outside, and all the other fun stuff I enjoy..

since I mentioned cleaning, I think I shall say goodbye to the post and clean the house. Pictures are uploading from my iphone so I will be back with fun stuff at some point {today I hope}

No longer

I just want to let everyone know. I no longer am wanting a baby or a puppy. It was a 2 week thing only. I didn't want either before those 2 weeks and I don't want either now.

Thank goodness I didn't just go buy a puppy and get pregnant. I think I'll just be happy with what I have and not want what I don't have. Seems a lot smarter.
